mi have hugenumberof maples ndlocust growing like weeds in my lawn so i have a ton of "experimental" material,I amcutting my teeth this summer just trying to keep a few alive.
stick with it. maples air layer pretty well. tree needs to be healthy though. did you take off the bark all the way round the trunk on the maple whose apex died?
